Why do we suggest purchasing a RETRACTABLE awning versus a FIXED awning?
 

Fixed means just that – always permanent and not aesthetically pleasing to the eye with vertical or angled posts blocking your view.

Since the awning cannot be retracted, the room will be very dark on a cloudy or rainy day.

If the winds are high the fabric will tear or be ripped from the frame. It is not practical to remove the fabric before every heavy storm or high winds.

Solution dyed fabrics (Sunbrella, Dickson, Gottschalk & Para) have a 5 year warranty against fading, mildew & rotting, but are known to last in the 12-15 year range on our retractable awnings as they are rolled up when not in use.

Most fixed, permanent or stationary awnings are installed with vinyl or canvas not solution dyed acrylic. Both vinyl & canvas will mildew, rot and/or fade within 2-3 years.

Retractable awnings have no vertical legs or posts, therefore, one’s view is not impaired and children and pets cannot run into the poles.

Fixed awnings have vertical posts or braces. This is not pleasing to the eye and the posts can be walked/run into by children & pets.

Solution dyed acrylic fabrics are known for their durability in the retractable awning, marine & patio furniture industries.

The cover life is MUCH shorter since canvas (which is cotton and not acrylic) or vinyl is ALWAYS exposed to the harsh elements including the sun and ultraviolet (UV) rays.

We only use 100% expanded PTFE TENARA® UV resistant sewing thread which has a lifetime warranty against seam separation since it is U.V. (Ultraviolet) resistant and is unaffected by salt water, cleaning chemicals (even bleach), cold or hot temperature extremes and acid rain. It is also non-flammable and will not rot or mildew. 

Almost all fixed awnings are sewn with polyester or cotton which will deteriorate and break within a couple of years. You will then have to have the cover resewn.

Fixed awnings are made of steel which will rust and corrode from the elements usually within 2-3 years.
