RETRACTABLE SIDE ARM / DROP ARM AWNING |
This product has 2 arms only
(one on each side of the window / door). The arms
move to a vertical upright position when the fabric
(excluding valance) is rolled up completely onto
the roller tube. The Mirage awning can be
rolled down to a complete vertical down position
which will allow the fabric to be almost flat against
the window / door depending on arm size projection.
The awning can be stopped anywhere between the open
and completely down vertical position (e.g. horizontally).
Important: You will need a clear width span (no
projections like vents, lights, speakers, downspouts,
trim etc.) that is approximately 6 wide above the
window/door. The awning can be manufactured in 1
increments (they are priced by the foot so a 148
is priced as a 15 awning). The width (from left
to right) of the awning is determined by the overall
width of the roller tube and its tube support brackets.
The fabric is between 4 and 6 1/8 less ( 2 to
3 on each side) than the total width depending
on whether the Mirage awning is manual, motorized
and/or has the square hood. It is important that
the awning is made wider than the window since the
fabric width should be at least be as wide as the
window/door and the hardware (arms and brackets)
have an area of wall to attach them to. A minimum
of 12 more than the window/door size (6 each side)
must be allowed and included in your final order
size.
The
Mirage lateral arm model can be mounted
to any solid surface, however you should ensure
that the bolts penetrate a structural member (stud,
brick, header, beam etc.) a minimum of 1 ½.
After
measuring the width, you need to determine which
projection you need. The projections shown in the
specification table and price estimator are the
maximum distance out from the mounting wall the
awning will cover. Make sure there are no obstructions
in the area that the awning will cover. To have
the awning cover the window area when vertical (down)
measure the center point of the height of the window
and add 6 for going above the window/door for hardware
and tube with fabric. That is the minimum size of
arm projection that would be required to do a complete
cover up of the window/door.
Cranks
are available for manual or backup manual override
awnings in four sizes: 40, 60, 70, 85 or 108.
To determine the size required measure from 6 above
the window/door (mounting height) down to the users
waist. This is the approximate size required.
Finally,
determine which side of the Mirage awning you want
the crank and/or motor to be located. Standing on
the deck or patio facing the mounting wall,
select left or right. Your choice should be based
on ease of access and any obstructions. If the awning
is to be motorized, access to the power source is
an obvious consideration. Measurements of location
of existing outlet to control option box, from control
option box to motor and from control option box
to wind sensor or rain sensor or sun sensor, if
purchased, would also be required.
Two
installation brackets will be supplied for each
Mirage side arm / drop arm awning, one for the left
and one for the right.
Siding shims Used to keep the mounting bracket
plumb when mounting to horizontal lap siding. Pressure
treated wood 2 thick x 6 wide (9 with hood) should
be mounted according to awning width. The wall brackets
can then be mounted to the pressure treated wood.
This is not needed for existing flat surfaces.
A
complete set of instructions is sent with every
awning. Should you need further assistance in measuring,
we are an email away. Email is responded to within
24 hours or less.
