Patio covers are a fusion of retractable awnings and sun rooms, with permanent posts to bring definition and a sense of place, while the retractable fabrics and optional louvers give a sense of lightness and air.

The Salerno is the latest design in RetractableAwnings.com’s exclusive patio cover series, and it is also the most popular. The top guides are stacked casually at the end of the crossbar and post, meeting end-to-end in a way that is almost-but-not-quite seamless. The smooth posts are fixed to the ground with hidden brackets. The hidden joint components and fixtures contribute to the sleek and modern look.

The Salerno unifies grace and structure. Its lightweight aluminum frame and rugged strength allow it to fit in equally well in bustling commercial areas, quiet restaurant decks, hotel or private patios. Salerno brings a sense of protection from the elements with proven protection from heat, glare, UV rays, and heavy rain.

The Salerno design is not only contemporary; it’s also functional:

• Irregular shapes like rhomboids and trapezoids allow you to fit the Salerno into the most difficult architectural corners.
• Built-in gutters and discharge downspouts control rain and runoff with ease. The guttering is mounted in line with posts so it’s nearly invisible. A patented drop catcher system prevents rain from seeping around the windbreak bars.
• The awning can be slightly angled to provide invisible run off while keeping a near-flat appearance.
• Optional retractable side curtains or vertical drop awnings (with our patented telescopic guides) provide additional protection, quiet, and privacy.
• The Salerno is rated for performance in both very heavy rains and winds up to Beaufort scale 10.
• The Salerno can attach to our unique Scivolo sliding enclosure, a style of sliding doors. A full enclosure provides maximum protection from wind and rain for a comfortable and sheltered environment – without losing the view.

As with all of RetractableAwnings.com’s patio covers, the Salerno can use louvers in addition to the fabric to control and reflect light – all at the touch of a remote control.

Control the Light with Pescara Louvers

Every one of our retractable patio cover systems can use our completely unique Pescara louvers. The Pescara addition echoes a graceful, overlapping pattern or slender aluminum strips. The Pescara louvers not only block sunlight like overhead blinds; they also reflect light and can be positioned in different ways to control light intensity. They work with the waterproof patio cover fabric to scale the level of light and glare for ultimate protection and are not intended for rain protection.

Pescara louvers can be controlled by remote control. Their corrosion-resistant aluminum strips and stainless steel components resist both rust and discoloration or bleeding.

The Pescara louvers are adjustable but not retractable.

A Diverse Selection of Enclosures

Our patio cover series uses a permanent trellis framework to support the retractable awning fabric and to define the space. Because of the permanent frame, our patio covers can be enclosed to provide both privacy and protection.

There are three different types of enclosures that can be used with any of our patio covers, and any or all of them can be used at once:

• Installing vertical drop awnings such as our Parma model on the beams of the patio covers for retractable sun and glare control
• Using graceful side curtains or front curtains to soften the profile of the frame
• Choosing sliding doors (two, three or four panels, with multiple slide directions to choose from) for the strongest sense of quiet, privacy, and seclusion – almost like permanent construction
