FIRESIST®Glen Raven's FIRESIST line of fabrics was specifically designed for commercial awnings. Commercial buildings – from hotels to offices – are adopting increasingly strict safety rules about the materials used in the building. FIRESIST fabrics are an answer to those strict standards, providing a level of safety that commercial properties can rely on.
Acrylic fabrics are inherently somewhat fire-resistant. FIRESIST fabrics have an additional, patented fire retardant finish to increase its flame resistance. This finish is so effective that FIRESIST is certificated by the California Fire Marshal as a flame retardant material. FIRESIST has another acrylic urethane coating to provide extra fire resistance and as a waterproofing treatment to make FIRESIST fabrics even more desirable as a protective canopy and rated for any light commercial building (stores, restaurants, offices), not to mention residences.
All told, FIRESIST has four different finishes or treatments for extra protection:
- UV treatments
- Water-resistant finish
- Soil/stain-resistant finish
- Fire retardant finish
FIRESIST comes in 12 different solid colors. The weave on FIRESIST fabrics is artistically pilled and textured to add extra visual depth to the fabric and imitate a tweed style. Combining texture with the vibrant colors, FIRESIST has a certain beauty that belies its utilitarian engineering.
The patented Sunbrella printing system, SGS, is available for FIRESIST fabrics, as well, so that FIRESIST can be used for commercial signage as well as awnings and screens.
As with other Glen Raven fabrics, there is a dedicated recycling program for all FIRESIST fabrics. The Recycle My FIRESIST program gives all customers a way to safely discard of FIRESIST products and allow them to be recycled into additional acrylic manufacturing products – echoing perfectly that reliable environmental philosophy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
All FIRESIST fabrics have a 5-year warranty.

Sunbrella partnered with 3M to create an entirely new system of awning printing. Built on the experience of both sign-makers and awning fabric manufacturing, Sunbrella Graphics System (SGS) uses a specially-designed machine and an innovative ink film to adhere the graphics to the fabric. Through a combination of heat and vacuum sealing, the graphic film has an unusually strong bond to the fabric, which means that the graphics last much longer and have a crisp appearance.
The SGS machine has a flexible graphics interface so the machine can cleanly print any logo, image, text, or shape on the retractable awning fabric.
