Important Note: The FAQ questions and answers below ONLY apply to the free standing awnings and canopies from Retractableawnings.com and not to any other product type available on our website or from any other vendor.
Freestanding retractable awnings are usually medium or large, permanent structure rain and/or shade/shading systems for decks and patios or any other outdoor living area or workspace. They are perfect for homeowners and businesses who have a very low roof height with no space to mount an attached type retractable awning, large yards, in-ground or above-ground pools or large, spacious patios and decks.
More durable than makeshift, portable canopies and pop up tents and more attractive than traditional screened in areas, free-standing awnings allow you to create shaded, rain, hail, snow protected areas (depending on model installed) on your patio or deck without the need to install a permanent structure since all offer retractable roofs, retractable louvered roofs or rotating louver roofs. They are easy to assemble, and offer you more flexibility with creating cool, shaded, rain, hail and snow protected spaces outdoors.
RetractableAwnings.com offers The Torino, which is far stronger and sturdier than your average retractable patio umbrella. With a one-of-a-kind, modern look that combines functionality with style, this easy-to-use awning has a canopy capable of tilting forward and backward so you can adapt your shade depending on where the sun is shining. Its hassle-free crank makes opening and closing this awning a breeze.
Retractableawnings.com also offers other free standing awning models, most of which offer sun, heavy rain, hail protection and one model, the Bioclimatique, that offers sun heavy rain, hail and snow protection.
Yes, as opposed to fixed awnings, the Torino model can be transported in your motorhome, camper or RV recreational vehicle (space dependent) and set up anywhere you choose. All other freestanding models are not designed to be transported within a motorhome, camper or RV.
Our Torino model awning offers strong aluminum support posts and an optional weight stand which allows it to withstand light winds without the need for additional weight. The canopy tilts both backward and forward to allow for easy adjusting throughout the day.
The free standing awning model Perugia is for sun protection only. Free standing awning models including but not limited to the Bursa, Kayseri, Konya, Malatya, Mersin, Forli, Hamburg and others offer sun, heavy rain, hail protection and one model, the Bioclimatique, offers sun heavy rain, hail and even snow protection.
Installation for each free standing awning model varies by the product type/model and, most importantly, the substrate that the free-standing awning is being attached to. Examples of substrates include wood, brick, concrete block, steel, aluminum, marble, travertine etc. The type, diameter and size of fastener used varies based on the substrate attaching to, product weight, bracket size, bracket hole positions and more.
By cleaning your awning once a year, you are protecting the fabric and keeping your colors bright. Some fabrics are small enough to put in the washing machine, but for the majority of them you’ll need to use a mild, eco-friendly liquid soap (recommended in the manufacturer’s instructions), cold or lukewarm water and a soft bristle brush. You could also use a hose or pressure washer that is set to very low / low.
To start cleaning, make sure leaves and debris are brushed off. Wet the awning then begin sweeping with your brush from bottom to top. Rinse the awning from the top down and ensure the material is dry before retracting.
